Editions and Pricing
Wowza Media Server 2 is available in several editions. Restrictions apply to selected editions &mdash see the Documentation page for the Wowza Media Server EULA and User's Guide for more information on allowable usage and functionality. Download Wowza Media Server 2 installation packages and get a license from the Wowza Store.
In brief, the licenses differ as follows:
- Wowza Server Developer: This free edition is intended for developers and provides the same functionality as Wowza Media Server 2 Subscription, except it is limited to 10 concurrent connection for Flash (RTMP), RTSP/RTP and MPEG-TS streaming and further restrict continuous streaming time duration for HTTP delivered streams to iPhone and Silverlight.
- Wowza Server Subscription: This standard license includes all the functionality for multi-protocol, multi-client streaming offered at a very economical monthly fee. Subscription licensees receive a single license key that can be used on multiple servers. You provide the hardware, bandwidth and management. All upgrades, even full version upgrades are free! This is a software only subscription.
- Wowza Server Perpetual: This license offers the same functionality as the Software Subscription edition except a separate unique license key is required for each server. Full version upgrades are charged an additional upgrade fee. Not valid for use by Service Providers What is a service provider?.
- Wowza Server for Amazon EC2: The same functionality as the Subscription edition combined with machine time with various Amazon EC2 instances and bandwidth at a very attractive price. This is the only type of license valid for use on Amazon EC2.
- Wowza Server Evaluation: This free license offers the same functionality as Wowza Server Subscription but is limited to 30 days of use for evaluation or pilot production deployment. Use is restricted to one time only, one license per customer. Other restrictions apply.

The Wowza Server Perpetual edition offers the same functionality as the Subscription edition but is licensed on a perpetual basis. A unique license key is required for each server instance and additional fees for future upgrades may apply. The Perpetual license offers unlimited per-server connection capacity (actual connection capacity will depend on your choice of hardware, Internet connection bandwidth and specific application).
Not Valid for Use by Service Providers. What is a service provider? Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), Hosting and Streaming Service providers may not use this edition.
